Join the Environmental Club in Celebrating Earth Day

Wright College’s Environmental Club will be hosting their 16th Annual Earth Day Event on Thursday April 21th, and the school community is more than welcome to attend! The event will run between 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Environmental Club will kick off their Earth Day event with planting trees in the college garden at 9:30 in the morning; activities that follow will include a variety of games, take-home prizes, and discussions about efforts we can take to help improve the environment.

Pedro Carrera, treasurer of the Environmental Club and rep for SGA meetings, has been an active member in the club since the beginning of the year. “The [environmental] club has offered me space to discuss and learn about an environmental cause I care about,” he said. The club offers many opportunities for those who are interested in helping the earth’s environment. The Earth Day Event is a chance to learn about resolutions to issues that are effecting our environment, such as water security, organic farming, green cleaning products, renewable energy, and animal rights. Those involved over past years have also played a part in maintaining the greenery of the school’s campus and garden. Carrera states, “The annual event (Earth Day) is a window of exposure of many environmental issues to Wilbur Wright College students. The event is where students exhibit green/ sustainable environmental ideas of causes they care about.”

When asked what he hopes to see at the Earth Day event this year, Carrera answered “More student/faculty involvement in environmental issues, and more student involvement in in supporting clubs presenting their ideas the day of the event.” He continues, “People should attend because environmental awareness is everyone’s responsibility, and affects everyone’s present and future livelihood.”

After the tree planting will start at 9:30 a.m., the event will be hosted at the campus center. There will also be a film screening in room S-247. If you have any questions, or are interested in becoming a part of the club, visit room S-134 at 12 p.m. on Tuesdays to attend a club meeting!
