#FUNDOURFUTURE - MAP Grant Forum to be Held on Campus Oct. 6th

The Cook County College Teachers Union (CCCTU - http://ccctu.org/ ) Local 1600 will host a MAP Grant Forum on Thursday, October 6th, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm in the Wilbur Wright College Theatre, located in the Events Building. CCCTU’s flyer states, “Wear red to support the MAP Grant Funding. Join thousands of educators, parents, and students across the nation walking in for the education our students deserve”.

The Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grants are grants funded by the state of Illinois that do not have to be paid back. They are given to Illinois students whom of which meet the following criteria: a US citizen/eligible non-citizen, enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours (per semester, excluding summer), not have received a bachelor’s degree, not be currently incarcerated, attend a college or university in Illinois, and based on the information given on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are eligible for financial assistance. MAP grant money is used for tuition and other obligatory school fees and cannot be used for books, housing, or transportation. The money awarded to the student is given directly to the college/university of choice. The maximum amount, or number of total credit hours, that the MAP Grants will cover is 135.

However, the state of Illinois still does not have a completed budget for the fiscal year of 2016, which is hindering the MAP Grants awarded to students and future students. The CCCTU had two information tables set up on September 28th and September 29th for people to learn more information prior to the MAP Grant Forum on October 6th.
