2016 has been a solid year for the music genre of heavy metal and particularly phenomenal for the black metal sub-genre. We have seen releases from Inquisition, Abbath, Mantar, and a magnificent return of Dark Funeral. Another big release was Rotting Christ’s new album, Rituals, which later in the year they announced a tour in the US with Marduk as the headline. Sadly, Marduk could not make it due to visa issues and later dropped off the tour. The three remaining bands continued the Frontschwien Tour.

Aside from the shortage of certain merchandise it was an outstanding tour. One of the biggest surprises was a band called Half Baker and then another named Necronomicon, a band from Montreal whom of which, never disappoint. If you like Behemoth you’re going to enjoy Necronomicon’s style of blackened death metal. Carach Angren opened up for Rotting Christ and put on an excellent show and really brought a lot of energy to the venue.

When Rotting Christ began to play, the venue was packed and became a whole different atmosphere. They opened up with a song from their new album, a slower song titled, Ze Nigmar, and it was almost as if the audience was put into a trance because of the building excitement for the next song. Rotting Christ played the remaining show with a faster songs and some of their older material as well. It was amazing that the power of the band moved people; some sang along, clapped their hands in the air, and almost felt festival-like.

Overall, the Frontschwien Tour was a great success and would suggest seeing Rotting Christ in person.
