Keep Calm and Join the Disability Access Club

The Fall 2016 semester has brought workshop sessions organized by the Disability Access Center that focused on aiding current students with their transitions into the workforce. On October 5th a resume building workshop was hosted by Patrice Henderson and Tiffany Drebenstedt.

Students were able to learn the process of creating a resume by receiving handouts of example resumes as well as student resumes. October 19th the workshop session focused on how to ace a job interview. There are only three more workshop sessions being held in the month of November. The workshop sessions include “#Hired” that focuses on using LinkedIn to land a job, “Make it Happen” which is how to set goals and accomplish them, and “Show Me the Money” that is about budgeting finances while being in college.

In addition to the DAC hosting a series of workshop sessions, the first time ever in Wright College history, there is now a Disability Awareness Club. The club is set to have their debut and first meeting on October 28th at 12:00 p.m. in the faculty dining area (at the main campus).

Thinking about majoring in physical therapy, clinical social work, and special education teaching, or just want to learn more about disabilities? Keep Calm and Join the club. The Disability Awareness Club will be open to all students, not just students with disabilities.

The club is open to any and every student who is interested in learning more about disabilities and those want to support Wright’s Disability Access Center. The Disability Awareness Club will focus on workshops and bringing a better awareness to disabilities.

The club is a way for students who have disabilities to create a better supportive community through other students with and without disabilities.

For more information of the Disability Awareness club feel free to email wrightdisabilityclub@gmail.com or visit the DAC in the Learning Resource Center (L135).
