The gym’s bleachers were plastered with students rooting on their fellow students, but the question remained – would the advisors finally get their winning streak back or would they crumble for a third year in a row? The answer was building, tensions were rising, and balls were flying through the air in Wright’s gym on Nov. 23 when the Student Government Association (SGA) held their annual Turkey Bowl Tournament. “It’s the suspense – trying to figure out who is going to win. I’d love to play against faculty members” said student, Lynette Lopez.

This year marked the fifth year of the event, except this year, SGA kicked out flag football for dodgeball. “When people [the student teams] start to win it gets really intense,” said student Jennifer Muñoz.

The annual Turkey Tournament began five years ago and used to be in conjunction with Wright College’s annual Taste of Thanksgiving. “This is my first experience with dodgeball and I’m happy about it. Getting people together at once is always a difficult task, but this is a great way!” said SGA’s Secretary Chintan Patel.

From 2011 to 2013, the Advisors held a winning streak, but the 2014 tournament was won by the Admissions and Testing Office and the 2015 tournament was won by a team formed by various part-time staff from different departments.

This year, a group of students in the Mannequin Team (shown in photo below) were the ones who took home the turkey. Better luck next year, Advisors.

The Mannequin Team were the winners of the 2016 Turkey Bowl.
