The gift that keeps on giving

On December 1st, the Wright College Veterans Club hosted the Toys for Tots toy drive. Students were able to donate new and unwrapped toys all the way up to December 9th.

Toys for Tots was originally set up by the Marine Corps as a way to help children in need of a brighter holiday and to show support for the people back home as they defend us overseas. After receiving toys from generous donators, they wrap them and bring them to orphanages where they can give the toys to the children.

“After giving a gift to a child in need, the simplest thing, a smile or a thank you, brings a tear to my eye. That is the outcome we aim for,” said Jan Michael Jamardin, President of the Wright College Veterans Club.

The toy drive was not without activities and incentives. Hot cocoa, coffee, cookies, and chocolate were offered for visitors and donators alike. Santa Clause also dropped by to add to the Christmas spirit of Wright College and to greet the donators as they spread the Christmas cheer.

Christmas joy was felt throughout the College as club helped out club. Prior to the toy drive, the Vets Club also received help from the Anime Club. According to Robert Taylor, the Vice President of the Veterans Club, to help out with the event anime club donated $144 to assist with the expenses.

This event coupled with the doughnut drive that took place the week after was able to get the students and faculty of Wright College the jump they needed to get into the holiday spirit.

In the spice of the holiday season, it is important to pass on the Christmas joy by giving to the less fortunate. With the toy drive, donators were able to pass on the gift that keeps on giving.
