Sometimes the pressures of pursuing a college degree can be overwhelming. That’s where your college advisor can help to alleviate some of that stress. Wright College’s advisor meet-and-greet allowed students an opportunity to meet the people who would aid them on their journey through higher education.
On February 1st, tables and chairs lined the entrance of the arts building as advisors set up shop. During meetings, students were able to get transfer assistance, determine career goals, find scholarships and internships, and get on track with their certificate or degree. These are services that advisors can help you with at any point in a semester. “Keeping your advisor updated with your academic plan will allow them to better help you on your path. Your advisor is one of the most crucial roles in academics because they will always put your academics first and help you behind the scenes,” said Mary Kincaid, Coordinator II of Academic Advising. Advisors are there to support students through the littlest to the largest obstacles. They will advocate for students who are falling behind and serve as a motivator for a student as well as communicate to teachers and tutors the difficulties a student is having. “It’s important to talk with your advisor. They know more about the choices you can make and can help you with working out a plan for your academic path. Consistently talking with them will help you even further and will keep you on the right track,” said Wilbur Wright College student Jubye Padilla. When taking the first step on the road to the rest of your life, it is important to make sure you begin on the right foot. Talking with an advisor throughout the journey will keep you from stumbling down the road.
